It is clear that the future of Earth is too important to allow any single politician too much control. Even the symbolically important position of president of a country. As our world approaches a single group of powerful governing elites, we must hope their end goal has the best interests of the human race in mind, even if they had to cross some dark bridges to get us from the past to where we are today.
Even though we made mistakes during the cold war, it may have been for the best that some secrets were kept from the public. History is a tangled web, and before we start assigning too much blame, we should think about what we can learn about ourselves and what kind of a future we want to aspire to.
I think many of the governing world elites ultimately have our best interests in mind, but you can't change the world overnight. The weight of history on most people's shoulders makes any big change a slow process.
